Golf Balls 101
What exactly is the reason for all those little dimples all over a golf ball? It’s not just to look different, there’s purpose behind the design! The small dimples give the ball lift in the air with the proper amount of spin. Golf balls are made with a specific number that indicates compression. This explains how densely packed the inside of the golf balls components are.
Golf balls range from a soft compression number of 80 on up to an extremely hard number of 110.
A golf ball’s compression gives it a specific feel rather than distance. For example, if you are hitting a ball that has a 100 compression number, it is going to feel extremely hard when the clubface makes contact. On the other hand, a ball with a 80 compression number will feel softer.
Which Golf Club Should I Use?
Which golf club should you use for that shot?
When you’re new to golfing, one of your biggest questions might be…which golf club should I use for this shot? As you go down thefairway, you’ll be adjusting your shot each time. To start out, you want distance, but from that point on, you’ll be shooting for accurancy and precision.
This requires that you utilize different clubs for different shots. The club faces are made from either metal or wood. Different materials on a golf club will have different effects on how far the ball will travel, and how high it will go.
Should I Choose an Iron or a Wood?
Generally speaking, the higher the number on the club, such as a 9-iron for example, the higher the ball will go into the air, but with much less distance than a lower-numbered club, such as a 3-iron.
If you are new to golf and are a little confused about these numbers and what clubs to use, don’t worry, in time you will have a specific feel for each and every one of your 14 clubs when playing on the golf course.
I’m not going to break down the specifics of each club just yet, because I want you to have the general idea to start….
Higher number - more air, less distance
Lower number - more distance, less air

Grip a Golf Club
Looking to learn to grip a golf club? Whether you want to call it a proper golf grip, or even a correct golf grip, there’s a basic way that will give you a neutral grip which is what you want to start with.
I remember the first time I went to a local driving range. There was a driving range attached to the local mini golf course. I was a teenager looking to blow off a little steam. A kind gentleman looked at me holding my driver with a grip like a baseball bat, and asked if he could show me the right way to hold a club. I was grateful, and was amazed how much better I was just with that proper fix! Who knew that years later, I’d be showing others how to hold a golf club!
Let’s get started…when you grip a golf club, you want to find that perfect fit, because a proper golf grip is a neutral grip. Here are some steps you’ll want to take to find your grip.
1) Start by letting your arms hang down free from tension, with your hands on either side of the grip, palms facing one another.
2) Now feed the club into your left hand, so the club runs diagonally from the first joint of your forefinger up into the fleshy pad at the top of your palm. Close your fingers around the grip.
3) Your left thumb should rest on top of the grip, just right of center. In a mirror, only two knuckles on your left hand should be visible to you.
4) To apply the right hand to the club, keep in mind the all-important palms-facing principle. Bring the right hand in toward the grip and wrap the fingers around it. The right hand should fit snuggly on top of the left, the right thumb and forefinger forming a soft trigger around the grip.
Now that you’ve learned how to grip a golf club, you’ll find it soon becomes quite a natural feel! OH– that’s how they hold it!
Golf Tips for Beginners- Placing the Tee
Simple Golf Tips for Beginners - How To Tee Off On The Correct Side
Golf is the type of sport where you must grab every advantage on the golf course that you can find. By paying attention to the many seemingly unimportant details, you can really make a positive difference in your score.
For example, consider something that you probably have never thought about before – where you should place the tee. Seems simple enough, right? How can there even be an article devoted to it? It may appear unimportant, but small details like can make or break your game.
The first thing to do is find the flattest spot on the ground possible. A well maintained course should provide plenty of flat areas to tee off, which gives you the choice as to which side to use.
If there is trouble waiting on the left side of the fairway then you should hit the ball from the left side of the tee. This way you can aim to the right side of the fairway and avoid trouble. If you see hazards to your right, then tee up on the right.
Consider any crosswinds. This is important. If the wind is coming in left to right, tee on the left side and attempt to fade the ball slightly into the wind. If the wind is heading left, use the right side of the tee and try to pull the shot.
This simple golf tip is perfect for beginners. It’s something you may not have put any thought into, but now you can see that even the smallest changes can make a difference in your overall game. I’ll be including more golf tips for beginners, so be sure to bookmark us and check back often.

Golf for Beginners – 6 Tips For New Golfers
When it comes to golf for beginners, often times it’s the little things like picking up on etiquette, or rules that can throw you a loop. Here are some very basic tips for those who are beginning golfers.
1. The objective of golf is to sink your ball into each of the 18 holes on the course, taking as few shots necessary.
2. Every hole has a par number which indicates how many maximum shots you should take to remain at a 0-par (for good golfers).
3. Every golf course has obstacles that are designed to make your game more difficult. Most of these obstacles are man-made, such as sand bunkers and out-of-bound areas. However, other obstacles may include ponds, streams, trees, bushes, and other wooded areas.
4. Regardless of your budget, there is a golf course in most any area and for reasonable prices. Most courses have 18 holes and others have 9 holes (perfect golf for beginners).
5. Practice shots should be made at your local driving range, which is an excellent place to tweak your technique. Be sure to practice both long and short shots, in addition to putting.
6. Take advantage of every shot on the driving range by aiming for a specific target. This will help you gain better distance and more control over the ball.
They may seem like simple, basic golf tips to those who are well versed in golf, but when it comes to golf for beginners, you’ve got to start from square one!
